Here's what's going on with the budget.

Here's what's going on with the budget. Scott, if you want to post this on our political section, go for it. Also, June 7th is the FDL County Democratic Party's "Campaign Kick-off" at Peg Lautenschlager's house on Sheboygan Street in Fond du Lac. Denise, you and I have off; we should make it a point to attend.
I met with Richard Martz, the FDL County Dems chairperson on Tuesday. Smart man. I've invited him to our next union meeting, along with Jerry Kiefenheim (I think I spelled that right - it's pronounced "Ki-fen-hyme", long "I"), the Democratic candidate running against John Townsend for the 52nd Assembly district (our district). Gonna be a busy meeting, especially if we have that Republican candidate for the 18th Senate District showing up.
I'd like to recommend that we get more active with the local labor council. If need be, I'll be the one that makes the meetings and takes the notes for our local. The state is the largest union employer in FDL County - that's us - we should have more influence over what happens in the city, the county, the district, along with our union brothers from area businesses (such as the Carpenters' union)...
Legislative Leaders Hold Secret Talks On Budget Repair Bill
State Senator Carol Roessler says the secret talks legislative leaders are holding about a nearly half a billion dollar deficit in the state budget are certainly that, secret. She says with the exception of a handful of people most state legislators are being kept in the dark. She says there are some things that have been bandied about, but until they see official reports on deficit reduction proposals they can only guess. Senator Roessler says she suspects talks will begin to heat up now on the budget repair bill.
